LFHS Innovation Incubator
Teaching, Marketing, Curriculum Development
In 2014, the Lake Forest High School Foundation, in partnership with business professor Joe Pulio, embarked on a groundbreaking educational journey to develop a Business Incubator class. Based on the business model described in the book “Running Lean,” the class leads student teams through ideation, product development, finance, marketing and production of a new business product. At the end of the semester, student teams are thrown into the Shark Tank to pitch their business ideas to a group of “investors” who are well-respected business leaders.
RED President Catherine Driscoll has been serving as a business coach, mentor and course consultant for the Business Incubator, and has taught sections of the curriculum focused on marketing and website development. Now Driscoll is working with a core team to develop the year two curriculum through which funded student teams will actually bring their businesses to life!
The class and curriculum are receiving very favorable reviews from educators and community members alike, and the students have grown significantly in the past nine months. Below are links to stories written about the experience.
